Algún día es hoy

I was driving home from Chicago the other day and passed a large billboard that said, "Algún día es hoy." This beautiful Spanish phrase translates to "someday is today." Not only was I pleasantly surprised and happy to see a billboard with Spanish words on it, but I was forced into a sort of "between semesters reflection" that lasted the remaining 40 minutes of my drive.

In 2013, I spent three months in Sevilla, Spain studying, exploring, and traveling. In two short days, I will be going back to Spain to spend five more months perfecting (hopefully) my language. My time in Spain has been the most life-changing experience, and I know the next five months will only bring more new learning experiences. I have fallen head over heels for a city that is over 4,000 miles from my home--I love everything from its orange tree lined streets to the extremely friendly locals.

However, since I have been home, I have been feeling a bit emotional about leaving home and going back. This winter break has brought more than its fair share of challenges, so leaving my home, family, boyfriend, and friends has, at times, seemed more than manageable. I have been able to remind myself along the way that I knew this whole experience was not always going to be easy, but that it was always going to be worth it. Sometimes I just need a reminder, perhaps in the form of a Spanish billboard tucked between the lit up skyscrapers in Chicago, Illinois...

It is never easy to leave everything you know. It is never easy to pack up five months of your life and head to a place where they don't speak your primary language. But, if I never faced my fears and challenged myself to break out of my comfort zone, I know I would find myself looking back and wishing I had taken advantage of the opportunities that life (shout out to the best parents ever) has given me. So, instead of worrying about leaving, I am going to choose to take full advantage of this amazing opportunity and put my whole self in it.

On that note, I give you...
